What is FMIG? Introduction:
The idea of forming this unit came from the responses given by the I-CARE participants. From their survey, a majority of Muslim patients claim that they did not perform their ‘ibadah (i.e. solat) during theirhospital admission. Among the reasons include; Difficulty in moving their body e.g. Some patients may need an orthopedic cast (used to support broken bones) which limits their activity. Concerns on the validity of their ablution (wudhu’) e.g. attachment of a urine bag. Both patients and those who take care of them are unaware of the conveniences or alternatives (rukhsah) offered by Islam for those who are ill. Hence, this indicates a necessity as well as an opportunity to form a specialized team like FMIG so that knowledge of fiqh can be applied in a more practical and pragmatic manner – especially for sick and needy patients. Motto: Pulse of the Ummah
